Bit of background – The Tatami mat were originally created by the Japanese invented from the Nara period, a noble mat used only by people with a high social standing. Used by (the 45th Emperor) – Emperor Shomu as a bed, the Tatami is preserved in the treasure house of Todai-ji Temple in Nara Japan. Tatami mats are now commonplace and are popularly used as beds and flooring.

Product Description

Hanami is a long-standing Japanese tradition of welcoming Spring and is popularly known as the Cherry Blossom Festival. To capture the sakura (the most well-known species of Japanese cherry blossom) in full bloom the festival dates vary by location and time, with celebrations beginning in the day and continue into the night. Accompanied by music, food and drink is enjoyed with gatherings under the cherry blossom trees.

The Tatami picnic mat was created to not detract from the beauty of the cherry blossom trees. They organically blend into the peaceful landscape so the blooms can be admired and enjoyed with the least visible distraction.

The Tatami picnic mat is made from recycled paper and is waterproofed with a resin backing.

The mats are 1910x955mm and are perfectly compact weighing just 280gms.
